About Monica Cravotta

Monica Cravotta StandingOver the last two decades plus, I’ve built an accomplished career in Marketing and Communications that has serendipitously run parallel to the dawn and evolution of the Web. I feel very fortunate to have contributed to several of Austin’s startup darlings during their genesis, pivotal growth stages, or exits including Kendra Scott, KIPP Austin, The Engine 2 Diet, Bazaarvoice, Mass Relevance, Spredfast and WP Engine.

Working with companies ranging from early stage to unicorn status, I’ve led marketing strategy and spearheaded key initiatives contributing to revenue growth upwards of 8-10X.

I’m truly just as happy doing the work as leading it. I’ve worked solo as an executive marketing strategist partnering with a COO and overseen multi-function corporate marketing groups with 40+ member teams. I’ve led teams and leaders of teams across a variety of disciplines including Product Marketing, Brand, Creative, Communications, Content, Social and Events.

I’ve been a frequent public speaker giving keynote presentations, leading panel discussions and interviews with digital luminaries, or playing “MC the emcee” at events in Austin, New York City, London and Sydney.

I love building things from scratch. I’ve launched countless products, functions, teams, strategies, initiatives, rebrands, publications, events, and employee support groups.  At WP Engine, I founded the company’s very first Employee Resource Group for women.  My vision was to create a space where women could support one another in navigating the unique challenges we face working in the tech industry, while gaining leadership practice. Called “Roar,” the ERG now operates with rotating chairs who lead global ambassadors in multiple cities around the world. Roar inspired others to follow and WP Engine’s vibrant ERG community now includes seven groups.

I’m known for my collaborative leadership style, calm presence and high standards.  I believe kindness and accountability are not mutually exclusive.

On the personal front.  I grew up in Fort Collins, Colorado and went to CU Boulder where I studied English Literature, Theater and Art History and earned my Humanities degree. I loved it! I spent most of my 20’s in Boulder where I worked, skied, hiked, trained for a few marathons and fronted an R&B cover band. In 2003, I moved to Austin to pursue a life with more music. This manifested into co-owning, building and running a recording studio, producing an album with singer-songwriter friends, and singing with Austin’s Conspirare, of which I’ve been a member since 2005.

I’m a very proud mother of daughters – two of my own, and one step and also mom to two little ruff-ruffs: Winnie the Pooh-dle and Tucker. I love traveling and exploring new places. Mountains or beaches. National Parks or big cities. I’m also in a happy place watching movies at home or in the theater and experiencing art and performances of all kinds.
